Doncaster for Valour Commemorative Event

We are delighted and privileged to be able to host a unique event that will commemorate the seven Doncaster soldiers who earned the highest award for valour - The Victoria Cross. As a town Doncaster holds the highest number of VCs and our commemorative event - Doncaster for Valour will celebrate this most prestigious honour at the Corn Exchange on Tuesday 10th November 2026 - The Eve of Remembrance. 

The event will be open to the public free of charge from 10am until 4.45pm with displays of VC, WW1 and WW2 related artefacts presented by volunteer veterans from our charity the Victoria Cross Trust. Our small charity based solely in Doncaster is responsible for the restoration of memorials and graves including the Doncaster VCs alongside work with schools and other groups whom we educate in the history and stories behind the recipients.

The event will include Vc related displays presented by armed forces veterans including our patron Rusty Firmin SAS who led a team during Operation Nimrod into the Iranian Embassy to release hostages being held there in 1980. He will be conducting a book signing alongside other displays of artwork and Remembrance giftware that will help to raise funds for us to continue our work.

Businesses and colleagues from the chamber are invited to attend and support the event,  our charity and team of veterans who have been nominated for the Kings Award for Voluntary Service having already received the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Employer Recognition Scheme award last year.  

Doncaster's seven VC recipients came from all walks of life working as engineers, miners, railwaymen, police officers, harvesters, greengrocers and pilots, occupations that many chamber businesses are involved in today. Your business may have a link to one of these bravest of the brave five of whom returned to civilian life and employment whilst two sadly did not.
