Bawtry’s Bra Bunting is Back! A Bold Display in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Bawtry is once again going bra-vo for breast cancer awareness, as the town’s iconic Bra Bunting makes a colourful return this October under the banner of Visit Bawtry Wear It Pink.

First launched over a decade ago by local boutique owner Emily Harbon of & She Knows, the Bra Bunting quickly captured national attention with its bold and creative way of raising awareness for breast cancer.

While in town for the Rugby League World Cup, players from both the Cook Islands Rugby Team and the USA Tomahawks Rugby League Team generously lent a hand in decorating the town, leaving unforgettable memories and attracting attention from across the UK.

After a successful revival last year, the event is back for 2025 with fresh support from the local community, sports clubs, and a new charity partner.

This year, all donated bras will be given to Cancer Research UK via St Nicholas’ Church in Bawtry, supporting the charity’s ongoing work in cancer prevention, treatment and research.

“We’re thrilled to bring Bra Bunting back again this year,” said a spokesperson for Visit Bawtry. “It’s a great way to spark conversations about breast cancer, encourage early detection, and show that our community stands united for a cause that touches so many lives.”

A Whole Month of Pink Power
The Bra Bunting is just one of the many ways Bawtry is showing its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Visit Bawtry Wear It Pink has evolved into a vibrant town-wide campaign filled with pink-themed activities, events, and promotions:

  • Pink-themed shopfronts and displays: Retailers across town will be dressing their windows and stores in pink to raise awareness and create an Instagram-worthy backdrop for visitors and shoppers.
  • Donation bins for gently worn bras have been placed around Bawtry at locations including The Crown Hotel, Hollies Bar, & She Knows, and St Nicholas’ Church, making it easy for the public to contribute.
  • Breast Cancer Ball: Which is taking place at Bawtry Hall and ran by Angels Events and Entertainment which is supporting Breast Cancer Now.
  • Bend and Check Video: A tongue in check video to remind men and women to check their chest, which was filmed at iconic spots across Bawtry.
  • Pink Cocktail Making Class: At Hollies Bar in Bawtry which is raising money for Breast Cancer Now.

Community and Sporting Support
Local businesses, residents, and organisations have rallied behind the campaign, with the town once again filling up those pink donation bins. The initiative continues to attract support from Doncaster’s sporting community, with Doncaster Rovers Football Club, the Doncaster Belles, and Doncaster Knights Rugby Club all backing the cause and helping to raise its profile.

The eye-catching bunting a vibrant display of pink and patterned bras will be on display throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, offering a bold visual reminder of the importance of breast health and community solidarity.

“This is more than just bunting,” said Charlotte Lister from The Crown Hotel Bawtry. “It’s a symbol of support, strength, and shared responsibility. We are honoured to be part of this initiative again and to help channel the generosity of the people of Bawtry into meaningful action.”

Bawtry Retail Association (BRA): Still Leading the Way

The Bawtry Retail Association (BRA) whose name fittingly aligns with the campaign continues to champion the event, encouraging retailers and businesses across town to take part in the festivities with pink-themed promotions, events, and awareness activities.

Whether you're donating a bra, dressing in pink, or simply enjoying a pink-themed coffee in one of Bawtry’s many fantastic cafes, every act of participation helps raise awareness and funds for a cause that affects so many lives.
