Cast is looking for an experienced, senior leader to serve as our Board Chair Designate. 

Following the appointment of our Director, James Blakey, Cast is entering an exciting phase of strategic review and preparation for our next five-year business plan (2027–2032).
As Chair, you will maintain the highest standards of governance, line-manage the Director, and help steer our vibrant, inclusion-driven theatre. Working alongside our parent charity, Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT), and key strategic partners, you will champion Cast’s mission to enrich lives through the transformative power of the arts.
We welcome senior leaders from any professional background or sector with strategic leadership experience, strong data and financial literacy, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and environmental responsibility. Previous board or trustee experience in a charity or cultural setting is welcome, but not essential—what matters most is your alignment with our values and your drive to make a difference in Doncaster.
We particularly encourage applications from individuals under-represented in senior roles within arts and cultural organisations.

Chair Responsibilities
The Chair is responsible for maintaining the highest standard at governance at Cast.  They facilitate Board meetings and together with the other Trustees, they have ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the Company, ensuring that it is solvent, well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for which was established.  The Chair will line manage and delegate the day-to-day management of the company to the Cast Director who leads the staff team and manages stakeholder relationships.  The Chair will be the Director’s first port of call for any matters that require urgent escalation.
 The Board is composed of up to 12 members and Trustees, who agree to:

• Set the strategic direction of Cast
• Advocate for Cast’s impact and champion its values
• Support the organisation’s Director and their team in the formulation of the Business Plan
• Work closely and co-operatively with the parent company, DCLT
• Approve the annual budget and scrutinise regular financial information to ensure that the Charity remains within the agreed budgetary framework
• Work with the Director and staff team to mitigate organisational risks and identify opportunities
• Understand and maintain a general overview of Cast’s policies and procedures
• Monitor Cast’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Environmental Responsibility
• Ensure that the charity complies with charity law, and with the requirements of the Charity Commission
• Ensure that the charity does not breach any of the requirements or rules set out in its governing document and remains true to the charitable purpose and objects
• Actively engage with fundraising initiatives and activities contributing to the financial sustainability of the organisation
• Act with integrity and with the best interests of Cast.
