World Social Work Day - 17th March 2026
World Social Work Day 2026
This year’s global theme, “Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society,” reminds us that positive change happens when we pull together in unity, shared purpose, and collective care.
Inspired by the African philosophy of Harambee — “all pull together” — the theme highlights how social workers play a vital role in rebuilding trust, strengthening community bonds, and creating spaces where people feel safe, respected, and included.
At Yorkshire Adoption Agency, we see this every day.
Our social workers walk alongside families through some of the most emotional, transformative moments of their lives. They hold stories of loss and hope, navigate complex systems with integrity, and offer steady, compassionate support through every stage of the adoption journey.
We want to acknowledge the emotional labour at the heart of this work.
It takes courage to sit with uncertainty, kindness to advocate for every child’s best interests, and deep empathy to accompany families as they grow, heal, and find their sense of belonging.
For us, ethical social work means practising with:
- Inclusion, so every individual and family feels seen and valued
- Dignity, so identity is never a barrier to support
- Shared responsibility, so we work with families, not at them
- Hope, because every child deserves a future shaped by stability, love, and opportunity
These values mirror the global call of World Social Work Day: to build a fairer, more harmonious society by standing together and honouring our shared humanity.
To our incredible team — thank you.
Your dedication embodies the very spirit of Harambee.
You help build families, strengthen communities, and create lasting change every single day.
Today, we celebrate you.
