Trio of ambassadors sign up to support Doncaster charity

Three Deaf role models from the world of acting, cooking and sport have signed up to be ambassadors for The Carr Fenton Foundation.
 
Actor Charly Arrowsmith, chef Scott Garthwaite, and cricketer Umesh Valjee, have all supported the charity previously and have renewed their commitment to be ambassadors for the next two years.
 
Alexis Johnson, chief executive of The Carr Fenton Foundation, said: “We are thrilled that Charly, Scott and Umesh have all agreed to continue in their role as ambassadors for our charity.
 
“Their help and support is invaluable. Charly recently attended our school prize day and spent time with Deaf students at The Yorkshire Rose College, where she was once a student herself.
 
“Scott has visited our catering course and put on fantastic displays to inspire and encourage our students, and Umesh has visited both the school and college, sharing his sporting expertise with pupils and students.
 
“Our ambassadors are all highly successful in their fields and they share their stories with our pupils and students, explaining how they overcame barriers when starting their careers.
 
“They support us by attending events, lending their voices when we need to spread the word about activities such as Deaf Awareness Week and Sign Language Week, and inspiring those who are learning with us.
 
“We are looking forward to continuing to work with them over the next two years as we raise the profile of the charity and the services we provide through Little Learners Day Nursery, Doncaster School for Deaf Children, Yorkshire Rose College, Aspire to Be employability and Dickson House children's residential home.”
 
The Carr Fenton Foundation is planning to expand its ambassador programme and hopes to recruit additional ambassadors in the near future.
 
Charly Arrowsmith said: “It always brings back fond memories when I visit the college, and it’s a real pleasure to share my time there, as well as my career journey, with the pupils and students. In a recent visit, I was lucky enough to attend the school prize day. It was so lovely to see the primary and secondary pupils perform with such confidence, and I hope it inspires them to explore future performance opportunities and perhaps develop an interest in the arts.
 
“I also attended a meeting as an ambassador of The Carr Fenton Foundation with Christian Foster from FlyDSA, who is working to reopen Doncaster Airport. It was valuable to be part of the meeting and to encourage collaborative work with Deaf representatives and colleagues from the Foundation, as we work together to make sure the needs and experiences of the Deaf community are considered in future travel plans.
 
“I’m proud to be an ambassador and look forward to continuing to work with the charity, Scott and Umesh.”
