UK Businesses Face Sharp Rise in TNUoS Charges from April 2026, World Kinect Advises on How to Prepare

As the UK accelerates its shift toward a net-zero energy system, businesses across the country are preparing for substantial increases in Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges due to take effect from April 2026.

TNUoS charges — the fees paid to use the UK’s high-voltage electricity transmission network — fund the infrastructure that transports electricity from generators to homes and businesses. According to the National Energy System Operator (NESO), total TNUoS revenue requirements are expected to rise sharply from £5.1 billion in 2025/26 to £8.9 billion in 2026/27, with further increases forecast to reach £13.6 billion by 2030/31.

World Kinect analysis shows that many organisations will see increases in their daily standing charges, with impacts varying by region, contract type, and energy usage. Companies located in South Wales, South West England, and South East England are likely to experience the steepest rises due to their distance from major power generation hubs.

World Kinect advises businesses to take proactive steps now to manage the upcoming changes. Recommended actions include:

  • Review contract terms to understand how TNUoS charges are applied.
  • Explore on-site generation to reduce reliance on the transmission network over the long term.
  • Evaluate opportunities for operational optimisation, such as demand-shifting or energy-efficiency improvements.
  • Stay informed and plan ahead.
