‘Mane’ attraction comes to Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping as colourful lioness sculptures arrive for Pride of Yorkshire charity campaign

Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping in Doncaster has welcomed a pair of life-sized lioness sculptures, as part of the Pride of Yorkshire campaign that’s rolling out across the region.

Two lioness sculptures have arrived at the site: ‘Flock Together’ – a Lioness created by artist Christy Johnson and sponsored by Ardagh Glass Packaging Ltd, and ‘Waves’ – created by Charlie Stafford and sponsored by Signs Express.

Both will remain in place until September, when the Pride of Yorkshire campaign concludes.

The initiative marks the 150th anniversary of Sheffield Children’s Hospital, with 150 lion and lioness sculptures placed across South Yorkshire for the hospital charity’s biggest ever fundraising campaign.

Lakeside Village’s centre manager, Lyndsey Parry, said: “We’re so proud to be hosting two of the lionesses in aid of Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

“As part of our wider 30th anniversary celebrations, the lionesses will add a splash of colour to the Village Green and raise awareness of the Pride of Yorkshire campaign throughout the summer months.”

Each sculpture is designed and painted by artists from Yorkshire and further afield, with sponsorship from supporting businesses and organisations.

The lions, lionesses and cubs will be on display across streets, parks and public spaces from June to September, highlighting the creativity, community spirit and fierceness of Yorkshire’s pride throughout the region.

Funding raised will contribute to a £20million project to transform the existing Emergency Department into a purposeful, calm space that reduces anxiety for visiting children in need of urgent care.

Part of the redevelopment also seeks to improve patient flow, enhance privacy and family experiences, and provide designated spaces for patients with additional needs.

The arrival of the fabulous felines follows the launch of Lakeside Village’s 30th anniversary campaign, marking three decades as a destination shopping and lifestyle outlet.

Further anniversary events are planned throughout the year, including a family-friendly celebration on White Rose Way on Saturday 15th August, thirty years to the day when Lakeside Village, then named The Yorkshire Outlet, was first unveiled to the public.
