Lockdown Part Two – Chamber Urges Businesses to Apply for Grants

As England continues through its second week of lockdown the team at the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce are urging businesses to access grant funding - if they haven’t done so already.

Between 5th November and 2nd December, under national lockdown measures, eligible businesses can now apply for further grants from Doncaster Council.

The Local Restrictions Support Grant helps businesses that have been required to close due to restrictions by providing grants of £1,334, £2,000 or £3,000 every four weeks whilst the restrictions are in place. The amount businesses receive depends on the rateable value (RV) of the property and the length of time the business remains closed. Properties with a rateable value of more than £51,000 may apply.

Andy Hibbitt, Doncaster Chamber’s Chief Operating Officer said, “The Government has extended the support schemes and deadlines for businesses, self-employed people and sole traders to apply for job protection schemes, grants and loans. “We would urge all those businesses to explore the grants available to them.

“Businesses in all sectors have been hit extremely hard throughout the last few months, particularly from sectors like retail, hospitality, tourism, arts and events, who are bearing the brunt of the economic havoc this crisis is wreaking.

“Both high street retail and our battered hospitality industries depend on this time of year for a disproportionate share of their annual sales, this means thousands of livelihoods will be affected in our town centres.”

For businesses that have not been forced to close but are still adversely affected, there will be grants available under the Additional Restrictions Grant scheme (ARG). £30 million has been allocated to the Sheffield City Region and Doncaster Council has assured businesses that more information will be available soon.
