Harrison College Named Amongst Best Places to Work by The Sunday Times

Harrison College, Doncaster, has been listed in the official Sunday Times Best Places to Work register in the category education and research.

The multi-award-winning college was founded in 2019 by Gemma Peebles as a pioneering institution dedicated to providing specialist post-16 education for students with autism and special educational needs.

With a focus on business, enterprise and employability skills, around 20 staff are dedicated to unlocking the potential of every student, ensuring they are equipped for a prosperous future, whether that is in a job, training or further education.

The nationwide workplace survey honours and celebrates around 500 organisations highlighting the best workplaces for women, the LGBTQIA+ community, disabled employees, ethnic minorities, younger and older workers, as well as those who provide the best wellbeing support.

Mrs Peebles said: “Harrison College is a great place to work because we all share the same vision of helping our students thrive. The culture here is so positive that it pervades every aspect of college life impacting staff, students, parents and carers and our network of supportive private and public organisations.”

The Sunday Times partnered with employee-experience platform WorkL to deliver insights into what makes a best place to work. The award uses 26 questions from WorkL’s employee engagement survey, developed by behavioural scientists, data analysts, psychologists, business leaders, academics and other independent parties.

It accurately monitors employee engagement, wellbeing and discretionary effort in the workplace. To achieve a high overall engagement score, an organisation must do well across WorkL’s six-step framework of reward and recognition, instilling pride, information sharing, empowerment, wellbeing and job satisfaction.

Founder of WorkL Lord Mark Price said: “Those featured in the list are leading the way in employee experience and will now benefit from improved retention and recruitment for the year ahead.”

Editor of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work award Zoe Thomas said: “This is the UK’s biggest survey of employee engagement. These organisations know that happy employees are the superpower helping them thrive.

“These are companies where staff have a spring in their step on Monday mornings and a willingness to go the extra mile.”
