Doncaster shoppers asked what they love to do as Lakeside Village supports National Year of Reading

Shoppers visiting Doncaster’s Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping are being invited to share their interests with the National Literacy Trust to celebrate the National Year of Reading 2026.

The National Literacy Trust is asking the people of Doncaster what they are into, football, music, gaming, baking, reading comics, TikTok trends, nature walks, makeup tutorials, podcasts or anything else.

Abby Chandler, deputy centre manager at Lakeside Village said: “Books and reading have always played a big part in my life. I was pleased to introduce our book corner in our guest services area where people can donate and take a book for free, making reading even more accessible for everyone.

“We’re pleased to be a part of The National Literacy Trust’s project to find out what Doncaster people like to do, to help them to collect insights from local people and families so that they can then explore reading and supporting what people love to do.

“I’ve shared one of my favourite books that I’ve read recently, So Thrilled For You by Hollie Bourne. I read a recommendation for this book which said ‘Brilliant. Funny, sad, relatable – I can’t stop thinking about it! And it didn’t disappoint, a tale of motherhood and friendship with a plot twist I didn’t see coming.”

A voting station has been set up in Guest Services at Lakeside Village where customers can fill in a voting slip or scan a QR code and fill in their interests online.

“We look forward to finding out what interests our customers and people of Doncaster vote for as their favourites and seeing how The National Literacy Trust then use this information to support the National Year of Reading 2026.”
