GCSE results day 1997: Lindsay Jenkins - a young Donny lass with an A in English, a thirst for rave and £4.25 for the taxi home - embarks on her first PROPER night out. Armed with a bottle of MadDog 20/20 and her best mate Jen, Lindsay loses herself in the hedonism of Doncaster's infamous club Karisma. The bass drops. The strobe hits. This is freedom. This is everything.

But when chasing the high of clubland becomes all-consuming, and a national media storm erupts around the UK's first heterosexual HIV cluster, Lindsay must confront the brutal truths lurking beneath the bassline.
