Doncaster Deaf Trust expands therapy services to empower D/deaf and SEND pupils and students

This week, to mark Allied Health Professionals Day (October 15),  Doncaster Deaf Trust is celebrating expanding its on-site therapy services.
 
The comprehensive team of specialists dedicated to supporting the communication, physical, and sensory needs of its pupils and students, is set to grow even more with current vacancies to boost the offer.
 
Led by recently promoted therapy manager Lauren Woodcock, the multidisciplinary team includes Carl Dalton, a speech and language therapist and qualified interpreter; Martha Taylor, a speech and language therapist; Leah Holloway, an occupational therapist specialising in sensory integration; and Emma Ward, a therapy assistant.
 
Lauren Woodcock said: "Our expanded therapy team represents a unique approach to supporting students with deafness and other special educational needs. By providing on-site, specialised care, we're able to address the individual needs of each student more effectively and help them develop the skills they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom."
 
The team offers a range of services including direct one-on-one therapy, targeted group sessions, and universal support strategies that benefit all students. Recent initiatives include the installation of a ceiling hoist for students with complex physical needs, the creation of a new sensory room, and the development of a disability-friendly kitchen.
 
The team is developing an innovative programme focusing on Functional Independent Communication Skills, designed to boost students' self-esteem, confidence, and communication abilities.
