Description
What Is The Opportunity Here?
For context, a new piece of research is being conducted across South Yorkshire looking at Jobs of the Future, the emergence of AI technology and the skills that businesses will need to stay ahead of the curve in our increasingly digital world / to understand businesses’ experiences when it comes to recruiting those who are further removed from the labour market.
To ensure this work is authoritative and representative of what the business community actually thinks, the LSIP Team are convening a dedicated roundtable event to solicit the opinions of handpicked firms like yours. This will be an opportunity for you to share your thoughts on hot button issues surrounding Jobs of the Future / to share your experiences when it comes to recruitment and retention, to outline the challenges you are facing in this area and to ultimately inform the content of a forthcoming report that will be sent directly to decision-makers and education providers.
What Happens With The Insight Reports?
The idea behind these insight reports is to gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by our business community, as well as how they can be better supported by the region when it comes to all things people & skills.
Feeding into the report by sharing your insights with us is an opportunity for you — alongside other handpicked firms — to make your voice heard by those with power to make a real difference here in South Yorkshire. After all, the document will not only be shared with providers and key decision makers, but they will also feature prominently in skills-related meetings across the region.
Indeed, the report has the potential to influence provision and commissioning in a big way, as the previous LSIP Insight Reports (more information about that below) have been incredibly well received. Examples of these can be found here.
What Are the Benefits Of Taking Part?
In addition to helping shape the skills system so that it better meets the needs of local employers, you will also be invited to take part in a later webinar where you’ll be able to engage directly with the aforementioned stakeholders, and will also be featured in all of the PR and comms opportunities that arise of the back of this.
In short, your views will be really valued and the insights gleaned will go far in South Yorkshire.
What Is The Local Skills Improvement Plan?
Published back in 2023, the South Yorkshire Local Skills Improvement Plan (or LSIP) is a comprehensive document that explores the emerging skills needs of businesses across the entire region, and makes a number of practical recommendations for partners and training providers to follow in light of these findings.
With the ultimate aim of improving productivity and ensuring that the local skills system is meeting the needs of our employers (while also equipping residents with the sought-after expertise they need to thrive in the modern workplace), some of these interventions have already been brought to fruition.
Among other things, we have seen the opening of a Modern Methods of Construction Centre, the installation of state-of-the-art immersive spaces in our region’s colleges, the establishment of a new Apprenticeship Hub, and the introduction of a popular series of Knowledge & Skills Exchange teach-ins that help business advisors become more au fait with what’s available to support their customers in the skills space. You can find out more about the various different components associated with the South Yorkshire LSIP here but, suffice it to say, there have been a lot of big wins for
