Chamber Digital: Virtual Roundtable on Destination Management

The South Yorkshire Chambers of Commerce, along with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and Local Enterprise Partnership are hosting a virtual roundtable for business  leaders in the leisure, tourism, hospitality, cultural, and heritage sectors.
 
The session will firstly explore how visitor economy and tourism businesses are faring and get a detailed sense of the issues, challenges, and opportunities facing these sectors in light of the pandemic. Secondly, it will capture business insight and preferences for how the region can work to support this important part of the economy through promotion, coordination and investment. The findings of this roundtable will support our policy and investment work and directly inform a review of how we can best make regional bodies such as Welcome to Yorkshire work more effectively.
 
The timing of this roundtable dovetails into local and national reviews into Destination Marketing Organisations (such as Welcome To Yorkshire) and how well they serve the needs of businesses and places.
 
As you will be aware, Welcome To Yorkshire has gone through a tumultuous period and experiencing much change in recent years.  This is an opportunity to influence what happen next and to ensure that the next iteration of the organisation, or its successor, is fit for purpose and equipped to deliver results for South Yorkshire’s business community.  Other outcomes of the meeting will be to inform the lobbying that the Chambers and MCA can undertake to influence Government support for challenged sectors in the here and now, and to inform the support that local agencies are able to provide to the sector.
